The Natural Option for Female Stress Incontinence
The American Urogynecologic Society indicates that "If you or someone you know is affected by loss of bladder control, you are not alone. An estimated 15-20 million people in the United States have bladder control problems. This condition affects men and women, although it is nearly twice as common in women. The prevalence of this condition does increase with age. 15 to 30 percent of adults greater than 60 years of age have UI. However, this condition should not be considered a normal result of aging." They also state that "Involuntary loss of urine is reportedly experienced by upwards of 95% of women in their reproductive and post-menopausal years."
So the likelihood that you will answer "yes" to some of our questions is high! However, you are ultimately the one who must decide whether the level of incontinence you are experiencing is a level that negatively impacts your quality of life and would benefit from an effort to eliminate the problem. Note that there are two primary types of urinary incontinence:
- Stress Incontinence -- which is defined as the involuntary loss of urine due to increased abdominal pressure (such as coughing, sneezing, strong laughter or abdominal exercise..)
- Urge Incontinence - which is often called "overactive bladder" and simply means that you cannot control the urge to void long enough to reach the bathroom.
While the Kegelmaster may help with both conditions, since its' primary benefit is to increase the strength of the pelvic floor muscles, it is most successful for reducing and even eliminating the problems relating to stress incontinence.
- Do you lose control and "leak" when you cough, sneeze, laugh - or otherwise put 'stress' on your abdominal muscles?
- Answer: Based on our summary above, it will come as no surprise that our answer here is "yes" - the Kegelmaster is your best choice for a natural, non-surgical approach to resolving your incontinence. By working your way up through the various "resistance levels' and performing your kegel exercises using the Kegelmaster, you should be able to substantially reduce and/or completely eliminate your stress incontinence.
- Do you experience ongoing incontinence which results in the need for daily use of pads and other products.
- Answer: If your incontinence is primarily due to loss of muscle strength in your "PC" muscles (pubococcygeal), then the Kegelmaster can likewise help.
- Do you have difficulty reaching the bathroom in time, once you know that you need to void?
- Answer: This condition is most likely related to overactive bladder - a condition in which the bladder walls pulse or squeeze involuntarily, causing an immediate anduncontrollable urge to void. For some women, strengthening the pelvic floor muscles may provide some ability to prevent loss of immediate control, allowing sufficient time to reach the bathroom. For many women, the other option what provides relief are common prescription medications for overactive bladder. If you want to avoid prescription medications, it would be worth trying the Kegelmaster to see if the increased muscle control provides you with any assistance for your symptoms.
