FAQ's

This page contains answers to common questions handled by our support staff, along with some tips and tricks that we have found useful and presented here as questions.

Is the Kegelmaster the right product for me... ?
If you experience mild, moderate or severe stress incontinence---- Kegelmaster has a great record for helping women to resolve mild, moderate or even severe stress incontinence. When you try it, you should experience a noticeable difference within 1-2 weeks. (Stress incontinence is the type of incontinence in which you experience loss of control when you laugh, sneeze, cough or perform any type of exercise.)

If you have noticed that sexual intimacy "just doesn't feel the same" since you had a child ----
Yes – if you have noticed a change in sensation since the birth of your child, the Kegelmaster should help you notice a significant difference after a relatively short period of use. The muscles of the pelvic floor are extremely vascular, and usually respond very quickly and positively to the resistance exercise provided by the Kegelmaster. Generally, within 1-2 weeks of daily use, you and your partner should notice a difference.

How will I know it's working?
During use, you'll know the Kegelmaster is working because you'll feel the unit contract. In your daily life, you'll know the Kegelmaster is working because you'll experience a reduction in urinary incontinence and increased sensation during sex.

How long will I need to use the Kegelmaster?
Your pelvic floor muscles are like any other muscle in your body – if you leave them alone too long, they'll become weaker or atrophy. So even once you've treated the condition you originally bought the Kegelmaster for, it can only help to  keep using it on a regular basis.

It is very important to remember to use the Kegelmaster every day – at the beginning of your exercise program. Once you have achieved the results you want in alleviating incontinence, or achieving increased sensation – then you can determine how often you need to use the Kegelmaster to maintain the health of these important muscles.

Can the Kegelmaster open “too wide” inside my body?
As long as you are comfortable and can use your vaginal muscles to contract the unit, you don't need to worry about the Kegelmaster being open “too wide.”  Stretching is good for the muscles.  Just be sure you control the settings so the Kegelmaster never causes you pain, and the Kegelmaster will never make the vaginal area larger or 'stretched out'.

Can I use an oil-based lubricant?
You can, but an oil-based lubricant is more difficult to clean from the unit. It tends to collect in small areas within the unit and it is much harder to clean out with soap and water, than if you used a water-based formula. In general, we recommend the use of a water-based lubricant, such as the one we offer.

Who should not use the Kegelmaster?
The Kegelmaster should not be used during the first six weeks after giving birth. However, some pregnant women use it to help prepare for childbirth. But always consult your physician first.
Also, women who have had genitourinary or any other pelvic surgical procedure should also wait six weeks before using the Kegelmaster unless given specific instructions by their physicians.
Additionally, women should not use the Kegelmaster -- simultaneously with any intra-vaginal device, such as a pessary, tampon or diaphragm.

Will using the Kegelmaster assist with cystocoele, (also known as "fallen bladder or bladder prolapse) problem?
For mild to moderate bladder prolapse many women have found using the Kegelmaster to be of great assistance. Strengthening the pubococcygeal (PC) muscles which surround the urethra, vagina and rectum can help to prevent the worsening of the prolapse.
For severe bladder prolapse, in which the bladder is substantially herniated within the vagina, the Kegelmaster is not a good choice. The most common course of action in this instance is surgery to suspend the bladder and eliminate the prolapse. The Kegelmaster can be of use, following the recovery period after surgery to strengthen the PC muscles for long-term pelvic floor recovery.

Mature women post-menopausal and/or sexually inactive? Will I have problems using the Kegelmaster?
The most common problem for post-menopausal women is thinning and dryness of the vaginal walls.  This may cause concern for use of the Kegelmaster, wondering if it will be uncomfortable or even cause bleeding.    There are two important points regarding this issue:

1. It is very important that for your use of the Kegelmaster you plan to use a good lubricant such as our recommended brand.  Use it liberally to assure comfort.  Also, make sure that you are using a water-based/water-soluable lubricant   (A note, petroleum based products, such as Vaseline change the pH and chemistry of the vagina and increase the risk of vaginal and vulvar infections such as yeast and vaginosis).
Also, when inserting the unit and starting your exercises, go slowly and easily and make sure that you are comfortable.  Do not "push it".

2. Many mature Kegelmaster users have also found it helpful to use an Estrogen cream to improve vaginal lubrication in general.  Your gynecologist can recommend a brand.  Some women have found intra-vaginal estrogen cream to work best.  Others have found that oral estrogen works for them.  We suggest this be discussed with your gynecologist.
